WHAT IS TETRA?
TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio Access) is the only digital mobile radio technology that has been accepted for use throughout Europe. TETRA provides excellent quality and low error rates for non-voice data traffic. It uses a technique called TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) with four user channels, interleaved with one carrier and 25KHz spacing between carriers. This makes it inherently efficient and reliable.

‘One example of a module developer who was involved early on with TETRA compatible receivers is Bradford based P D Technology Ltd. This company has successfully produced a low cost 433MHz band receiver module with a narrow band of 300 KHz for general telemetry, which can be claimed as TETRA proof. The company’s TPR433 receiver module was one of the first units tested at Dolphin Telecommunications test site in Basingstoke, coming through with flying colours. Successful transmissions were made from PDT-KF04-433RC and PDT KF02-433RC transmitters to the TPR-433 receiver module even when a simulated TETRA system was put in very close proximity.

Electronic Fire-Resisting Roller Shutters are now required to be fitted with Audio/Visual Warning as standard as a mandatory requirement of the machinery directive. P D Technology has developed a fire panel that is the ultimate in fire control. The technology behind the panel allows it to control a fire shutter in a fire situation with total precision. The panel is smart enough to instruct the fire shutter to act as a smoke barrier and to then only close once both audio and visual warnings have been carried out
